WCU for METIS
Worked as Optics and AIV engineer in Prof. Lucas Labadie’s group for the Warm Calibration Unit (WCU) of the Mid-Infrared ELT Imager and Spectrograph (METIS) from June 2020 to January 2023 at the 1st Physics institute of the University of Cologne, Cologne, Germany. Below is the lists of tasks i was involved in:-
- Optical Tolerance analysis of the relay optics of the WCU.
- Optical tolerance analysis of the Focal plane imaging optics and the Pupil plane imaging optics of the WCU.
- Simulating the effect of gravity and temperature on the optical performance of the WCU.
- Thermal analysis of the WCU. Analyzing the effect of heat generated by the Blackbody on the temperature of the WCU.
- Lab experiments for understanding the effect of heat generated by blackbody on temperature of the WCU.
- Analyzing the effect of temperature on the lateral position of the focal plane of the instrument.
- Analyzing the effect of stress (induced because of mounting the mirror inside the mirror mount) on the WFE of the WCU.
- Simulation and Lab experiments related to the AIV activities (experiments with FISBA interferometer for measuring the WFE of an optical system consisting more than one optical surface.)
