Scanning Cloud Monitor
All Sky Scanning Cloud Monitor is one of the instrument I developed as part of my Ph.D. The instrument works on the principle of measurement of sky temperature for differentiating between the clear and cloudy sky. A thermopile sensor is used to measure the sky temperature. Multiple sensors are arraned in the form of an arc, whcih then rotates around zenith to cover the whole sky. Below are the tasks performed by me:-
- Mechanical design of the instrument
- Design and development of control electronics for the instrument. Electronic boards like Sensor Interface boards, and controller cum data acquisition boards were designed and developed.
- Work on Embedded software of the instrument.
- QT based data acquisition software and LabVIEW based data analysis software.
- Installation of instrument at IAO Hanle, data collection, and paper publication.
See the images and the Publication list below for more information.
- 3D model of the Instrument and instrument installed at IAO Hanle.
- Sensor Interface board.
- Instrument controller and data acquisition card.
- Instrument being tested along with CONCAM all sky camera at IIA Bangalore.
- Instrument installed at IAO Hanle.
- Instrument featured on the cover page of "Journal of Astronomical Instrumentation".
- QT based data logging software.
- LabVIEW based data processing software.
- LabVIEW based cloud percentage calculation software.
